The sun moves through each of the Human Design gates; one gate every 5-6 days. As it does, it brings a collective theme to humanity, a spark on the treasure map of our Human Design chart that can be felt and invites exploration. I call these Stories from the Stars. Plus read to the bottom for details of upcoming events.

From today until 11th August, it’s the turn of Gate 7: The Gate of the Role of Self.
Pull out your Human Design chart and see if you have Gate 7 defined (coloured in). If you do, you already know this energy, you have consistent access to it at all times. You might feel it a little stronger right now, and you’ll see it in those around you. If Gate 7 is undefined, it’s usually blank in your chart, but right now you’ll have a strong sense of the themes for the next few days, as will everyone else.
The core energy here is about direction. Gate 7, the Gate of the Role of the Self, carries a strong and sometimes quietly insistent drive to know which way things should go, to hold an inner compass that others can orient toward, and to contribute a sense of collective direction simply by being clearly aligned within oneself.
Gate 7 sits in the G Centre, the centre of identity and direction, and connects to Gate 31, the gate of influence, via the Channel of the Alpha.
Together these gates they form the full arc from inner sense of direction to the public expression of that direction in a way others can follow. But Gate 7 is the inner knowing. Its job is to be so clearly oriented within itself that leadership becomes something it embodies rather than performs. The sense of direction this gate generates is meant to be a signal, pointing toward who is genuinely equipped to guide and which way the collective needs to move.
In its high expression, Gate 7 brings a remarkable capacity for quiet, grounded leadership. People with this energy defined do not need to announce themselves. They simply know which direction things should move in, and others feel that knowing and are drawn to it naturally. This is not leadership that demands followers. It is leadership that emerges because the person carrying it has a clarity about direction that others recognise and trust. This is the energy of someone who, when asked which way to go, always seems to know.
In its low expression, the inner compass loses its signal. There is a pattern here of either overreaching, trying to direct people who have not asked for direction and pushing a sense of leadership onto situations that do not call for it, or of going to the opposite extreme and abdicating all sense of direction entirely, waiting for someone else to lead while the inner knowing sits unused. The low expression can also look like confusion about role, a persistent uncertainty about where one belongs in the collective and what one is actually here to contribute.
Please note: we all move through the high and low expression of every gate. The aim is simply to notice what you notice rather than to judge yourself for where you land. Gate 7 is not asking you to take charge of everything around you. It is asking you to stay clearly oriented within yourself, and to trust that when your direction is genuine, others will find their way to it.
Because the Sun is currently transiting Gate 7, this energy becomes collective. You might notice people around you stepping into a clearer sense of their own direction, contributing to group decisions with more confidence, and finding it easier to know which way they are headed. You might also notice the shadow: people struggling with a loss of identity or purpose, overreaching into leadership roles they have not been called into, or waiting passively for someone else to show them the way forward.
The invitation of Gate 7: Let the cycle close. Know your own direction first. Lead from that place. Trust that clarity within yourself is the most useful thing you can offer to anyone around you.
Some journalling questions for you to reflect on Gate 7:
Where in your life do you have a clear inner sense of direction that you have been hesitant to trust or act on, and what is stopping you from following it?
Where are you trying to direct or guide others in a situation where they have not asked for your leadership, and what need in you is that coming from?
Think of a time when someone led you not through words or authority but simply through the clarity of who they were. What was it about them that made you trust their direction?
Where in your life are you waiting for someone else to show you the way forward, when the answer about which direction to move in is already present inside you

What would it mean to be so clearly oriented within yourself this week that the people around you naturally felt more settled simply by being in your presence?
