Stories from the Stars: an invitation to explore the themes of your Human Design, one gate at a time.
Starting can be exciting. Finishing asks for a different kind of attention: gathering the loose ends, recognising what has happened and allowing a chapter to become complete. Gate 42 invites us to consider growth through that process.
The Gate of Growth
Within Human Design, Gate 42 is located in the Sacral Centre. Open your Human Design chart and look for the number highlighted in the full bodygraph below.
An activated gate is one part of your whole chart. It does not, by itself, define its centre or complete a channel. You can explore these questions whether or not this gate is coloured in; an unactivated gate does not mean you lack the qualities discussed here.

Letting a cycle reach its conclusion
Growth sits in the Sacral and connects with Gate 53 through the Channel of Maturation. Its themes concern development through a cycle of experience and the energy associated with bringing that cycle towards completion.
Completion can reveal what an experience has actually given you. A course, a project or a season of life may need a moment of acknowledgement before you rush into the next beginning.
In its high expression
You give worthwhile commitments enough attention to develop and finish. You recognise the learning that emerges across the whole experience, including the less exciting middle.
You can mark an ending without requiring it to have gone perfectly. Finishing the practical details and acknowledging what you learned may make the next chapter feel less crowded.
In its low expression
You may leave many things almost finished, carrying them mentally long after the active work has stopped. Or you stay committed solely because stopping feels like failure.
A cycle's completion does not require enduring harm or ignoring changed circumstances. Sometimes an honest ending involves renegotiating, closing a project deliberately or accepting that its useful part is over.
The high and low expressions here are invitations to reflection, rather than a scorecard. Notice what fits your experience and leave room for what does not.
The invitation of Gate 42
Choose one open loop and decide what a responsible, realistic completion would look like.
You can return to this inquiry whenever the theme catches your attention. If you follow Human Design transits, it can also be a journalling focus during a transit through this gate; a transit is not an instruction to make a particular decision.
Some journalling questions for you to reflect on Gate 42
- What is ready to be completed?
- Which unfinished detail keeps taking my attention?
- What has this experience taught me?
- Does continuing still serve a purpose?
- How could I mark this ending with care?
