Gate 36: The Gate of Crisis

Gate 36: The Gate of Crisis

Stories from the Stars: an invitation to explore the themes of your Human Design, one gate at a time.

Being new at something can feel surprisingly exposing. You want the experience, but you cannot yet know how it will feel or what it will ask of you. Gate 36 brings us to the emotional territory of unfamiliar experience.

The Gate of Crisis

Within Human Design, Gate 36 is located in the Solar Plexus Centre. Open your Human Design chart and look for the number highlighted in the full bodygraph below.

An activated gate is one part of your whole chart. It does not, by itself, define its centre or complete a channel. You can explore these questions whether or not this gate is coloured in; an unactivated gate does not mean you lack the qualities discussed here.

Meeting experience with compassion

Crisis sits in the Solar Plexus and connects with Gate 35 through the Channel of Transitoriness. Its traditional themes include the movement from inexperience towards experience, with the emotional intensity that can accompany that movement.

The word crisis is not a prediction that something bad will happen. As a reflection, it gives us somewhere to examine the uncertainty of entering situations for which we do not yet have a reliable internal map.

In its high expression

You give yourself permission to learn as you go. You seek appropriate support and allow experience to deepen your understanding of other people.

You can admit that a transition is difficult without deciding you are incapable of meeting it. A useful next step is often smaller and more practical than the story your worry is telling.

In its low expression

You may chase intensity to escape boredom, or become convinced that an uncomfortable feeling means everything is falling apart. Expectations can make an ordinary learning curve feel like a personal disaster.

Return to the immediate situation. What is happening, what support is available and what actually needs attention? You do not have to turn difficult experiences into lessons on demand.

The high and low expressions here are invitations to reflection, rather than a scorecard. Notice what fits your experience and leave room for what does not.

The invitation of Gate 36

Meet one unfamiliar situation with realistic support and a little more patience for the person learning to navigate it.

You can return to this inquiry whenever the theme catches your attention. If you follow Human Design transits, it can also be a journalling focus during a transit through this gate; a transit is not an instruction to make a particular decision.

Some journalling questions for you to reflect on Gate 36

  • Where am I expecting myself to know what I have not learned yet?
  • What is actually happening beneath my expectations?
  • What practical support would help?
  • How has experience made me more compassionate?
  • What is the next manageable step?
