The Writing Club is open!

Posted by Nicola Bird on

Open until the end of Wednesday.

Me, creating 30 days of nature over on instagram at the moment. Shared here for no other reason that to bring some beauty into your day.

I’m tired this morning as I write to you. Minimal sleep for various reasons, and I wouldn’t have written today, only I have a commitment with my writing buddy to show up and put pen to paper. And a commitment to you to write my substack once a week.

Writing is important to me so I do show up, week after week, whether I feel tired, excited, like I have nothing to say, or full of a good idea.

Today, I’m writing to you about why you should consider joining The Writing Room, and because I’m tired, there’s no poetry, no flim flam, just ten fucking good reasons.

First, what is The Writing Room? It’s a time in your diary every week where you show up with only one commitment: to write.

You can write a sales page, a blog post, a substack, a poem, a book, or just turn up with a blank page, a pen and zero ideas what will happen.

But by the end of the hour you will have written.

9am or 4pm UK time every Wednesday. One session or both - you decide. Us, together, a prompt if you want one, music on, pen to paper/fingers to keyboard.

Here’s why you might consider joining:

  1. Nearly every week nearly all of us comment that had it not been for The Writing Room, we wouldn’t have written that day.

  2. Those who are working on bigger projects are finding the number of words slowly but surely creeping in an upwards direction - at last!

  3. Personally I use the Wednesday morning slot to arrive at the page with nothing and journal, play with ideas and unfold my heart on the page. I never fail to be surprised and there are often tears that come with insight. This is an excellent use of The Writing Room.

  4. I use the Wednesday afternoon slot to write my weekly newsletter for my art VIP List. Having this regular time in the diary means I never skip a newsletter and don’t have to think about it for a moment during the week because I know 100% it’s going to get done when it’s time. This is also an excellent use of The Writing Room.

  5. Everyone there is working on fascinating topics and although we only have a very brief intro and outro (because we want to spend lots of time writing), we know what each other are up to during the hour - which provides inspiration and feeling of all being in it together.

  6. There’s an optional ‘debrief for 10 minutes’ at the end; some people stay for it, some don’t, but where people have done, ideas are being swapped and friendships are being formed beyond the group.

  7. There’s something about doing something on your own, but with other people that makes your heart feel all warm without it interrupting your concentration and writing time.

  8. I am running it between now and the end of the year and then I’ll make a decision as to whether to continue into 2027. So this is a great opportunity to work on something for the next 3 months (but you can cancel after 1 month if you want to).

  9. You can skip a week whenever you want to and you don’t get told off :)

  10. It’s open now until the end of Wednesday and then it’s closed again so sign up today if you want in.

Told you I would just tell it like it is with no nonsense, and I have.

Here’s where to go to join….

JOIN THE WRITING ROOM

Hope to see you in there and write together with you,

Nic xx
