The sun moves through each of the Human Design gates; one gate every 5-6 days. As it does, it brings a collective theme to humanity, a spark on the treasure map of our Human Design chart that can be felt and invites exploration. I call these Stories from the Stars. Plus read to the bottom for details of upcoming events.

From today until 28th August, it’s the turn of Gate 59: The Gate of Sexuality.
Pull out your Human Design chart and see if you have Gate 59 defined (coloured in). If you do, you already know this energy, you have consistent access to it at all times. You might feel it a little stronger right now, and you’ll see it in those around you. If Gate 59 is undefined, it’s usually blank in your chart, but right now you’ll have a strong sense of the themes for the next few days, as will everyone else.
The core energy here is about intimacy. Gate 59, the Gate of Sexuality, carries a strong and sometimes overwhelming drive to break down barriers between people, to move past the surface of things, and to create the conditions for genuine closeness and connection.
Gate 59 sits in the Sacral Centre, the centre of life force, energy, and response, and connects to Gate 6, the gate of friction, via the Channel of Mating.
This channel forms the full arc from the drive to bond and merge with another to the emotional process of navigating what that closeness brings up. But Gate 59 is the initiating force. Its job is to dissolve the protective distance people keep between themselves and others, to move through walls and defences, and to create the kind of openness that allows real intimacy to form. The drive to connect this gate generates is meant to be a signal, pointing toward which bonds carry genuine potential and which connections are ready to deepen.
In its high expression, Gate 59 brings a remarkable capacity for creating closeness. People with this energy defined have a natural ability to put others at ease, to disarm defensiveness without forcing it, and to create the conditions in which people feel safe enough to be seen. They move past small talk and surface level interaction without it feeling intrusive or rushed. This is the energy of someone in whose presence others open up, not because they have been pushed to but because something about the connection makes it feel safe to do so. At its best this energy also carries a deep commitment to the bonds it creates, a willingness to stay present through the complexity and friction that real intimacy eventually brings.
In its low expression, the drive to dissolve barriers becomes indiscriminate. There is a pattern here of seeking closeness without discernment, of moving too quickly into intimacy with people or situations that have not yet earned that level of access, and of using connection as a way to avoid the discomfort of being alone with oneself. The energy can also tip into seductiveness that is more about the thrill of dissolving a barrier than about genuinely wanting what lies on the other side. Boundaries become difficult to maintain, either because they feel like rejection or because the pull toward merging overrides the quieter knowing that a particular connection is not actually safe or right.
Please note: we all move through the high and low expression of every gate. The aim is simply to notice what you notice rather than to judge yourself for where you land. Gate 59 is not asking you to keep people at arm’s length or to stop seeking closeness. It is asking you to bring discernment to the drive to connect, and to trust that real intimacy is worth building slowly and carefully rather than rushing into before the conditions are right.
Because the Sun is currently transiting Gate 59, this energy becomes collective. You might notice people around you seeking deeper connection, moving past surface level interaction with more ease, and feeling drawn to strengthen the bonds that matter most to them. You might also notice the shadow: people moving too fast into closeness, oversharing before trust has been established, or confusing the excitement of dissolving a barrier with the actual substance of a genuine connection.
The invitation of Gate 59: Let yourself be drawn toward real closeness. Bring your full presence to the bonds that matter. Trust that genuine intimacy is built through honesty and patience rather than speed and intensity.
Some journalling questions for you to reflect on Gate 59:
Where in your life are you holding people at a distance that no longer serves you or the relationship, and what would it mean to let that barrier come down gradually and with care?
Where are you moving too quickly into closeness with someone or something, and what is driving that urgency rather than allowing connection to build at its own pace?
Think of a relationship in your life where real intimacy has been built slowly over time. What made that depth possible, and what did it ask of you to get there
Where are you using connection and closeness with others as a way to avoid sitting with yourself, and what might you find if you turned some of that energy inward?
