1st July - 7th July 2026
The sun moves through each of the Human Design gates; one gate every 5-6 days. As it does, it brings a collective theme to humanity, a spark on the treasure map of our Human Design chart that can be felt and invites exploration. I call these Stories from the Stars. Plus read to the bottom for details of upcoming events.
From today until 7th July, it’s the turn of Gate 39: The Gate of Provocation.
Pull out your Human Design chart and see if you have Gate 39 defined (coloured in). If you do, you already know this energy, you have consistent access to it at all times. You might feel it a little stronger right now, and you’ll see it in those around you. If Gate 39 is undefined, it’s usually blank in your chart, but right now you’ll have a strong sense of the themes for the next few days, as will everyone else.
Gate 39 sits in the Root Centre and is the gate of provocation, obstruction, and the pressure to stir what has gone still.

The core energy here is about friction as fuel.
Gate 39 connects the Root Centre, the place of pressure and adrenaline in the body, to the Solar Plexus, the centre of emotional awareness and spirit. Its job is to provoke the spirit in others into revealing itself. This is the energy of the person who walks into a room and something shifts, whose presence alone seems to bring up feelings in those around them, and who has a gift for identifying exactly where something is stuck and applying just enough pressure to move it. The impulse this gate generates is meant to be a signal, pointing toward where emotional energy has gone stagnant and is ready to be released.
In its high expression, Gate 39 brings a dynamism. Richard Rudd (Gene Keys) describes people living the gift of this gate as those who know how to release stagnant energy through a system, who become expert unlockers and unblockers, and whose creative force can be applied to any field because at their core they know how to get things moving again. People with this gate defined (and that’s all of us for the next few days) have a natural capacity to stir what needs stirring.
The high expression can also look like the courage to provoke yourself: to question your own comfortable assumptions, to press on the places in your own life that have gone a little too quiet, and to trust that the discomfort of a well-timed challenge is a doorway rather than a threat.
It looks like liberation through friction.
Let’s hope it applies to football matches :)
In its low expression,
the provocative energy fires without wisdom or timing. There is an agitation here that can land as needless confrontation, stirring things up for the sake of it, or an unconscious habit of triggering emotional responses in others without any awareness of why. (The last transit, the Gate of Stillness was a perfect one to start my holiday. Not so sure about this one!)
This is what Richard Rudd calls the shadow of provocation: the same catalytic energy, but channelled through reactivity and old wounds rather than through genuine creative force.
Or it might look like the opposite: a turning of that provocative energy inward. A restless self-criticism, a habit of picking at your own limitations, or a pressure that has nowhere to go and so builds into a low-grade agitation that is hard to name or release.
Please note: we all move through the high and low expression of all parts of our Human Design chart. The aim is to notice what you notice rather than to ‘work on yourself until you become a high expression of every part of your chart.’ Each Story from the Stars is instead simply an invitation to observe, for me it’s more of a ‘I’m curious whether I tend towards the high or low expression of this gate - I guess I’ll find out this week.’
Because the Sun is currently transiting through Gate 39, this energy becomes collective. You might notice the world demonstrating a huge amount of the shadow expression of this gate, provocation: agitation without direction, conflict that generates heat but little light, and a collective restlessness that prods and pokes without any sense of what it is actually trying to unlock.
Alternatively, you might see the higher expression: people using tension as a creative force, catalysts who stir something in a community that genuinely needed stirring, and individuals brave enough to press on their own stuck places rather than waiting for life to do it for them.
The invitation of Gate 39: where has something in your life gone too still? Trust the pressure you feel there. Used with awareness and good timing, your capacity to provoke change, in yourself and in others, is a gift rather than a problem.
Some journalling questions for you to reflect on Gate 39:
Where in your life are you aware of something that has gone stagnant and is waiting to be moved? What are you doing with that awareness?
Think of a time you provoked a reaction in someone, intentionally or otherwise. What were you actually trying to surface or find out?
Where do you turn your provocative energy inward as self-criticism rather than outward as creative force?
Is there a relationship, a situation, or an area of your work where you have been tiptoeing around something that actually deserves a direct and honest look?
-
What would it feel like to trust that the friction and difficulty in a current situation are trying to unlock something rather than simply making things harder?
