31 July - 5 August 2026
The sun moves through each of the Human Design gates; one gate every 5-6 days. As it does, it brings a collective theme to humanity, a spark on the treasure map of our Human Design chart that can be felt and invites exploration. I call these Stories from the Stars. Plus read to the bottom for details of upcoming events.
Please note: From 1 August, I am on a creative sabbatical for a month, however, I have scheduled the Stories from the Stars emails so these will continue to come out to you while I’m gone!
From today until 6th August, it’s the turn of Gate 33: The Gate of Privacy.
Pull out your Human Design chart and see if you have Gate 33 defined (coloured in). If you do, you already know this energy, you have consistent access to it at all times. You might feel it a little stronger right now, and you’ll see it in those around you. If Gate 33 is undefined, it’s usually blank in your chart, but right now you’ll have a strong sense of the themes for the next few days, as will everyone else.
TThe core energy here is about retreat. Gate 33, the Gate of Privacy, carries a strong and sometimes uncomfortable drive to withdraw, to reflect on what has been lived, and to hold experience quietly until the right moment to share what it taught arrives.
Gate 33 sits in the Throat Centre and connects to Gate 13, the gate of the listener, via the Channel of the Prodigal. Together they form the full arc from deep listening and the holding of memory to the eventual sharing of what that memory contains.

The job of Gate 33 is to know when a cycle has ended, to step back from the noise of forward motion, and to sit with experience long enough to understand what it actually means. The pull toward privacy this gate generates is meant to be a signal, pointing toward what needs to be integrated before it can be of any use to anyone else.
In its high expression, Gate 33 brings a remarkable capacity for timing. People with this energy defined know when to speak and when to stay quiet. They have lived enough and reflected enough that when they do share, what comes out carries genuine depth and earned perspective. They also give others the gift of space, holding what they have heard without rushing to respond or fix. This is the energy of someone who disappears for a while and comes back with something worth saying.
In its low expression, the drive to retreat tips into avoidance. There is a pattern here of withdrawing not to integrate but to escape, of using privacy as a way to avoid the discomfort of being seen or participating fully. The wisdom gathered through experience gets hoarded rather than shared, either out of fear of how it will be received or a belief that the right moment will never arrive. Alternatively the low expression can look like the opposite: skipping the retreat entirely, rushing back into the next cycle before the last one has been properly closed, and carrying unprocessed experience forward into everything that comes next.
Please note: we all move through the high and low expression of every gate. The aim is simply to notice what you notice rather than to judge yourself for where you land. Gate 33 is not asking you to isolate or disappear. It is asking you to honour the natural rhythm of advance and retreat, and to trust that stepping back at the right moment is just as productive as stepping forward.
Because the Sun is currently transiting Gate 33, this energy becomes collective. You might notice people around you pulling back, going quieter than usual, and taking stock of where they have been. You might also notice the shadow: people avoiding rather than reflecting, withdrawing without intention, or on the other end, pushing through the end of a cycle without pausing to close it properly before starting the next thing.
The invitation of Gate 33: Let the cycle close. Take the time to understand what it gave you. Then share that when the moment is right. The invitation of Gate 31: Speak when you are called to speak. Lead when you are recognised to lead. Trust that genuine influence does not need to announce itself.
Some journalling questions for you to reflect on Gate 33:
Where in your life are you avoiding retreat because stillness feels uncomfortable, and what might actually be waiting for you there if you allowed yourself to stop?
Is there a cycle in your life that has clearly ended but that you are still treating as though it is ongoing? What would it mean to close it properly?
Think of a period of withdrawal or quiet in your past that turned out to be important. What did you come back from it knowing that you could not have known before?
Where are you holding wisdom or experience that you have gathered but have not yet shared, and what is stopping you from offering it at the right moment?
-
What would genuine, intentional retreat look like for you right now, and what would you hope to come back from it with?
