Gate 23: The Gate of Assimilation

Gate 23: The Gate of Assimilation

Stories from the Stars: an invitation to explore the themes of your Human Design, one gate at a time.

You understand something clearly, but the moment you try to explain it, the words become complicated. Or you say the simplest thing imaginable and everyone looks puzzled. Gate 23 explores the meeting point between an insight and its expression.

The Gate of Assimilation

Within Human Design, Gate 23 is located in the Throat Centre. Open your Human Design chart and look for the number highlighted in the full bodygraph below.

An activated gate is one part of your whole chart. It does not, by itself, define its centre or complete a channel. You can explore these questions whether or not this gate is coloured in; an unactivated gate does not mean you lack the qualities discussed here.

Finding words that let an insight land

Assimilation is a Throat gate connected with Gate 43 through the Channel of Structuring. Its theme includes bringing an individual insight into expression. Having something valuable to say and finding a receptive moment for it are separate parts of the process.

Think of the relief when someone finally explains a complicated idea in a way you can use. Simplicity can be the result of real understanding. It often takes patience to find the words that leave the essential thing visible.

In its high expression

You give an idea a clear form and consider the listener's starting point. You can use an ordinary example instead of making the explanation more impressive.

You also allow questions. If your first attempt does not land, you can try another route without deciding that either you or the listener has failed.

In its low expression

You may speak before there is enough shared context, then feel rejected when the response is confused. Or you keep your insight to yourself because you cannot guarantee that everyone will understand.

Try asking whether the person wants to hear your thought. A little permission and one concrete example can make a surprising difference.

The high and low expressions here are invitations to reflection, rather than a scorecard. Notice what fits your experience and leave room for what does not.

The invitation of Gate 23

Take one idea you have struggled to explain and express it in everyday language to someone who wants to hear it.

You can return to this inquiry whenever the theme catches your attention. If you follow Human Design transits, it can also be a journalling focus during a transit through this gate; a transit is not an instruction to make a particular decision.

Some journalling questions for you to reflect on Gate 23

  • What am I trying to communicate?
  • Which part is essential?
  • What context does my listener need?
  • Has the moment invited this explanation?
  • How could an ordinary example make it clearer?
