Gate 10: The Gate of the Behaviour of the Self

Gate 10: The Gate of the Behaviour of the Self

Stories from the Stars: an invitation to explore the themes of your Human Design, one gate at a time.

It is easy to know your preferences when nobody else is in the room. The interesting moment comes when someone raises an eyebrow, has a different plan or expects the version of you they have always known. Gate 10 invites us to look at how we live our relationship with ourselves.

The Gate of the Behaviour of the Self

Within Human Design, Gate 10 is located in the G Centre. Open your Human Design chart and look for the number highlighted in the full bodygraph below.

An activated gate is one part of your whole chart. It does not, by itself, define its centre or complete a channel. You can explore these questions whether or not this gate is coloured in; an unactivated gate does not mean you lack the qualities discussed here.

Being yourself in ordinary moments

The Behaviour of the Self sits in the G Centre. It has three potential connections: Gate 34 through Exploration, Gate 57 through Perfected Form and Gate 20 through Awakening. These are distinct channels; having Gate 10 alone does not define any of them.

The central inquiry is how your behaviour expresses your sense of self. This can be explored through ordinary choices rather than grand declarations. What you agree to, how you speak to yourself and what you allow into your day all contribute to the life you experience.

In its high expression

You let self-respect become visible in practical ways. You can be considerate without continually abandoning your own preferences. You allow your behaviour to become more honest as you learn.

Perhaps you wear the clothes you enjoy. Perhaps you admit that a familiar role no longer fits. There is room to change your mind without treating your earlier self as an embarrassment.

In its low expression

You can become so skilled at reading the room that you lose track of your own position. Afterwards, you replay the conversation and wonder why you agreed again.

Another trap is turning authenticity into a performance. You do not need to defend every preference or make every choice a statement. Being yourself includes being thoughtful about your impact and making repairs when you get something wrong.

The high and low expressions here are invitations to reflection, rather than a scorecard. Notice what fits your experience and leave room for what does not.

The invitation of Gate 10

Choose one ordinary moment in which you can behave with a little more self-respect. Let it be small, clear and real.

You can return to this inquiry whenever the theme catches your attention. If you follow Human Design transits, it can also be a journalling focus during a transit through this gate; a transit is not an instruction to make a particular decision.

Some journalling questions for you to reflect on Gate 10

  • Where does my behaviour feel most like me?
  • What do I agree to because it is expected?
  • How do I speak to myself after a mistake?
  • Which preference could I express more honestly?
  • What would self-respect look like in today's choices?
