I am a woman who dares to pickup a pen and see what wants to be written.
I fear that I simply have a romantic idea of this thing called writing: that it’s all floaty dresses and butterflies that land on the corner of my journal as I sit on a stone bench in the shade of an apple tree, a hot coffee by my side and my dog lying at my feet.
In truth I best dress for excavation.
Jeans and scraped back bun more appropriate.
Writing is digging deep into the soul, unearthing dumps and rocks; filthy work.
Work that requires showing up to that same soil day after day after day to see what new treasures lie there.
Sweating, even on the days I don't want to, even when the soil is darker than night.
Why do that to myself? Because I cannot not write.
I’m here on this planet to learn, to journey inwards, to know myself.
To become my own teacher (I have learned from many others over the years), to lead myself now.
To lead myself now.
