Imagine how much free time you'd have if you DIDN'T have to do it all
When I see someone doing what is theirs to do, something that lights them up, it’s magnetising. I’m a helpless moth to their flame. I catch their spark and now I want to do what they’re doing.
Which has led to a lifetime of learning how to photograph, create paper flowers, build flower gardens, coach, build online funnels, decorate wedding cakes, arrange flowers, paint flowers (spot a theme?), paint landscapes, seascapes, soulscapes. And that’s doesn’t even begin to touch the sides.
A few weeks ago, I was planning my Poetry of Art collection and I bought a painting tutorial by US artist Cody Hooper because of the moth/flame thing. I followed the steps and replicated what he taught and I created something beautiful but…..no soul. I tried again, with my own colours and shapes and again, beautiful…..but no soul. 👇

Instead, I closed the laptop and began again. I had been immersing myself in the poetry of David Whyte, Ellen Bass and Mary Oliver so I had the flavour of their exquisite words in my blood. Aside from that: blank paper, tubes of oil paint and no idea. What came out was less beautiful….but far more soul.
More me.
THIS was mine to create.

So how do I know what’s mine to do and what’s not?
I like to use the Human Design chart as a treasure map, taking one part at a time and diving deep into exploration, de-conditioning and alignment. Why? Because it helps me create with more flow and ease. (And have better relationships, make more money, have better health etc etc).
Here’s what I’m seeing more clearly than ever before as I’ve been researching and embodying the lessons of the Head Centre.
As someone with an open Head centre in Human Design, I will find inspiration and ideas EVERYWHERE. The challenge for me is determining which of those ideas are actually for me to do. The craziness comes from trying to follow all of them, usually at once.
You can check here to see if yours is open (white) or defined (coloured in).
When I ran a program called 1000 Women recently, one of the core areas of our exploration was “What’s NOT mine to do?”, something many of the women had never considered before in a world that feels like it needs so much.
The ideas and flow of others lights me up, and I’m here to follow what lights me as a Manifesting Generator. I also have a permission slip to be multi-passionate and multi-project-ful because of my design.
But without discernment and a strategy in place to clear the decks of the gazillion ideas to see what remains, I’m on the fast track to scattered energy and burnout, thanks to my open Head centre.
Not only does this element of my design give me ideas a-plenty, it also gives me a never-ending pressure to turn those ideas into action. Which leads to an inability to rest and exhaustion.
With a deeper understanding of my Human Design, I can have an awareness of what’s going on. A noticing of what’s happening, and that in itself, changes the game.
The sharp intake of breath and ‘I want to do THAT!’ when seeing someone else in action is now (when I remember) less of a sign to jump into the course/program and more of a sign to take a pause. To step out of the aura of that person and their work, let my mind clear and only then to check with my body’s sacral knowing of whether this is a yes or a no for me.
It has saved me a lot of money :)
If your Head centre is defined, that can come with a whole different set of challenges in terms of your creativity, and I’ll be covering that and more in my Finding Inspiration workshop this Wednesday 15th April - here’s where to go to learn more.
If any of this resonates and you have too many ideas right now, or alternatively, you’re finding yourself creatively blocked with NO new ideas at the moment, I hope to see you there as we explore inspiration through the lens of the Human Design chart.

If you’d like to explore your own creative life with me, here are some upcoming workshops:
Finding Inspiration - 15 April
Where does creative inspiration actually come from? How do you know which ideas are truly yours to follow? In this workshop we explore the Head centre in the human design chart, what it reveals about how you receive and experience creative inspiration, and why understanding yours changes everything about how you create. Learn more.
The Intuitive Creative - 20 May
In this workshop we explore the Splenic centre and what it reveals about instinct, safety and the subtle knowing that lives in the body. We look at how this centre operates at its fullest expression, what happens when it falls into conditioning or low expression, and how that shows up in your creative life, often in ways you have never had a name for before. Learn more.
The Creatrix Day - 28 July
For when you’ve had enough of zoom rooms. A one-day in-person creative immersion for twelve women held in a secret garden in Surrey. We’ll spend the day exploring what it actually means to be fully self-expressed, the real version of ourselves, the one that exists beneath the restraint of the good girls we learned to be our whole lives. Using art materials as our medium, we uncover what you truly desire to create, where you hold yourself back, and what becomes possible when you can truly express and give form to what wants to come through you. Learn more.
